D’Arcy Jones, Principal
D’Arcy designed his first project between a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS). Immediately after completing a Master of Architecture at the University of Manitoba D’Arcy founded his practice in 1999. He won the Ronald J. Thom Award for Early Design Achievement from The Canada Council for the Arts, won the Emerging Architectural Practice Award from the RAIC, and led the office to win two Canadian Architect Awards and two AIBC Lieutenant Governor Awards of Excellence. D’Arcy has been an Adjunct Professor at The School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at UBC, is a visiting critic and mentor for architecture students at various universities, and is a contributing writer for magazines. D’Arcy is an Architect AIBC, OAA (Non-Practising) and MRAIC.
Craig Bissell, Associate
Craig joined DJA in 2013. Craig completed his Bachelor of Environmental Design and Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. Originally hired to build models, Craig quickly became a project lead. Craig has over ten years of experience working on remote, complex or technically involved projects. Craig is a project architect who oversees a wide range of new build and renovation projects in Canada and US. He was the project lead on the Okada Marshall House, which was awarded an AIBC Lieutenant Governor Award of Excellence Medal in 2018. Craig is DJA’s go-to guy for office standards, precise 2D and 3D modelling and technical know-how. Current projects include a cabin in the Kootenays, a major renovation of Frederic Lasserre’s historic Friedman House, an urban rooftop penthouse in South Granville, a ceramics studio in Lions Bay and a delicate new house in Mt. Pleasant. Craig is an Architect AIBC and a Certified Passive House Designer.
Jesse Ratcliffe, Associate
Jesse joined DJA in 2015. Jesse moved from the University of Toronto to Halifax to study architecture, where he completed a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies and a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie University. Jesse draws on more than ten years of experience working on custom homes, medium scale multi-family buildings, restaurants, retail and heritage projects around Vancouver and Victoria. As a project architect, Jesse is leading DJA’s multifamily projects, and assists with the practice’s management. construction administration and systems. Jesse enjoys programmatically complex projects that will become civic assets. Current projects include the South House, the six-unit Pearl Block rowhouses, the twelve-unit Rotunda urban infill and the seven-unit Heywood flats, which are all in Victoria BC. Jesse is an Architect AIBC.
Rebecca Boese, Designer
Rebecca joined DJA in 2015. After studying at the Chelsea College of Art (University Arts London) Rebecca completed a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of East London. After moving back to Vancouver, Rebecca worked on tall wood buildings and complex custom residential projects before coming to DJA. Rebecca is a project lead on some of DJA’s most remote projects in Switzerland, Ucluelet and Revelstoke, as well as leading new build and interior design projects in Vancouver. Rebecca loves cabins, small homes and projects with tight budgets, delighting in their constraints. In addition, Rebecca coordinates all of the practice’s promotional, awards and publication content.
Jesse Nguyen, Intern Architect
Jesse joined DJA in 2015. Jesse’s attended the University of British Columbia for his first degree, earning a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Urban Geography. He moved to Chicago to complete a Master of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Jesse worked on luxury residential buildings and interiors in Chicago before moving back to Vancouver. After working on commercial, institutional and multifamily buildings, Jesse came to DJA to work on small and medium-sized projects. Jesse is a project lead on multiple renovations and new build residential projects in Vancouver and North Vancouver. Current projects include an angular house in Deep Cove, a funky renovation to a small bungalow in Mt. Pleasant, a spare and woodsy new house in Marpole, and assists with the studio’s multifamily projects. Jesse is an Intern Architect AIBC.
Ben Reimer, Intern Architect
Ben joined DJA in 2015, first as a summer student for two years before joining DJA full time. Ben completed a Bachelor of Architectural Science from Ryerson University before he finished a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. Ben was the project lead for DJA’s new office, acting as the general contractor. As a project lead, Ben manages a variety of renovations and new build projects in East Vancouver, West Vancouver and Kitsilano, along with some of DJA’s multifamily projects. Current projects include eight courtyard rowhouses in Victoria, a sixty-unit rental apartment, a house on a view lot in Mackenzie Heights, two houses on two different creeks in West Vancouver, and a very narrow house off Commercial Drive. Ben is an Intern Architect AIBC.
Jonny Leger, Designer
Jonny joined DJA in 2017 after completing a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies and a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie University in Halifax, which is also his hometown. Jonny had almost three years of detail-oriented and regional architectural work experience on the east coast before making the trek west. Current projects include several unique renovations and new build projects, including an art gallery and studio in Gastown, a multi-generational house in Victoria and quirky renovations in East Vancouver and on the North Shore.
Jessica Gu, Co-op Student
Jessica joined DJA in 2018. Originally from Saskatoon, Jessica is currently a co-op student on her long work term. She has almost finished a Bachelor of Architectural Science from Ryerson University. Jessica assists with the studio’s renderings, graphics, promotional material and permit drawings.
