Market Place reimagines a vacant 1960s bowling alley in Maple Ridge as a contemporary public market and community gathering space. Rather than replacing an existing building, the project shows how adaptive reuse can extend the life of familiar places while supporting new forms of public life. Working within the existing structure reduces material use, construction costs, and embodied carbon, while creating flexible spaces for local vendors, events, and everyday community use. The proposal reflects our belief that overlooked buildings often hold the greatest potential. Through careful intervention rather than wholesale replacement, the project transforms an ordinary commercial building into a resilient civic destination rooted in memory, economy, and place.
